San Diego, CA – February 12, 2025 – The Disabled Veterans PAC has released a compelling new video detailing direct action taken by Marine veterans Jason Gilbert, Kate Monroe and fellow veterans to secure a key gap in the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego—an area previously identified as a high-traffic illegal crossing point.
Gilbert and Monroe both 100% disabled U.S. Marine veterans personally located the breach after 60 Minutes reported that approximately 1,000 Chinese immigrants per day were entering the U.S. through the opening, passing "literal welcome signs."
“When we saw what was happening, we knew we had to act,” said Jason Gilbert, founder and chairman of Disabled Veterans PAC and the veterans’ border security advocacy group Border Vets. “I purchased concertina wire, gloves, and cutters—just like I used in my 10 years as an active-duty combat arms officer—and worked with congressional candidate Kate Monroe and other veterans to install it.”
Kate Monroe, who has since spoken about the effort on Fox News, led the effort in placing the barriers while Gilbert documented the process. According to reports from U.S. Border Patrol agents, the wire forced migrants to move further east into the desert, reducing illegal crossings at the site.
In addition to Monroe’s involvement, Border Vets, a group founded by Gilbert, installed another section of concertina wire in a separate area. When California Governor Gavin Newsom visited the site, the original wire was still firmly in place.
MARINES NOW SECURING THE BORDER UNDER PRESIDENT TRUMP
Recent reports from Fox News confirm that U.S. Marines are now deployed to reinforce gaps in the border fence with more advanced barriers under direct orders from President Donald Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
“This is what leadership looks like,” said Gilbert. “President Trump and Secretary Hegseth are ensuring that our border is secure. It’s a stark contrast to the neglect we’ve seen before.”
Gilbert has a history with Hegseth, having brought Marine officer Stu Scheller to meet him at CPAC following Scheller’s highly publicized relief of command and military imprisonment for speaking out on accountability. Gilbert himself has previously appeared with Hegseth on Fox & Friends, discussing the ongoing military recruiting crisis—another national security vulnerability now being addressed by the administration. Scheller is now serving in the Department of Defense as Senior Advisor for Personnel and Readiness.
A MESSAGE FROM DISABLED VETERANS PAC
“With the leadership of President Trump, Secretary Hegseth, and the U.S. Marines, we are seeing decisive action to protect our borders and strengthen military recruitment,” said Gilbert. “On behalf of millions of veterans nationwide, the Disabled Veterans PAC expresses our gratitude.”
“Thank you, Mr. President. Thank you, Secretary Hegseth. And thank you to my fellow Marines at the border. Semper Fi.”
